Hamas Leaders Pray with Abbas in Muqata'a, Hamas Statement holds Britain Responsible for the Suffering of Palestinians

Date: 02 / 11 / 2007 Time: 14:43

Bethlehem – Ma'an –

A number of Hamas leaders met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday in his headquarters in Ramallah in the first meeting between Fateh and Hamas officials since the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip in June.

Ayman Daraghmeh, Hussain Kuwaik and Abu Rumman also met Deputy Prime Minister Nasser Al-Sha'er and a number of ministers.

Al-Sha'er said the leaders attended Friday prayers together before holding discussions, particularly concerning security issues.

He added that the meeting was a good indicator for further dialogue. He said there was definitely going to be future communications between some Palestinian leaders, but he declined to give any more details.

A Hamas spokesman denied that Friday's meeting was an initial move to bring about dialogue between Hamas and Fateh.

Hamas says: Palestine is indivisible, resistance will continue till liberation

[ 02/11/2007 - 08:20 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

The Hamas Movement has affirmed Thursday that the legitimate Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation of Palestine will continue with all available means till occupied Palestine is completely liberated.

The Movement's remarks came in a statement it issued, and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC, in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the infamous declaration that was made by the British foreign minister Arthur Balfour in 1917 granting the world's Zionists a state in occupied Palestine.

In this context, the Movement held the international community, in general, and the British government, in particular, ethically and historically responsible for the suffering of the Palestinian people over the past six decades, urging them to rectify that historic wrong and deal with the Palestinian issue fairly instead of continuing support for the Israeli occupation government.

The Movement also stressed Arab and Muslim identity of Palestine, asserting that no one is authorized to concede an inch of the Palestinian soil, and that any agreement that might compromise any of the legal and historical rights of the Palestinian people in Palestine will be deemed "illegitimate".

Moreover, the Movement unequivocally vowed not to compromise the right of the Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland, pledging not to forswear that right regardless of the pressures.

The Movement also called on the PA leadership to pay more attention to the Palestinian internal affairs, and to extend "a sincere hand for national reconciliation" in order to fortify the Palestinian internal front instead of enhancing ties with the Israeli "enemy" that kill the Palestinian people on daily basis.

In this concern, Hamas warned PA officials meeting and negotiating with the Israeli officials not to ink any agreement that might forswear the national constants of the Palestinian people.

"They (PA officials meeting with the Israelis) must rethink their stands, and they must stop tampering with the Palestinian people's destiny, constants, and national cause", the Movement underlined in the statement.

In addition, the Movement urged Arab leaders to boycott the US-planned Annapolis conference this autumn, and called on them to reject US calls and pressures on them to normalize ties with the Israeli occupation government.

"Palestine is an Arab and Muslim country that couldn’t be divided, and thus, the Palestinian people will remain steadfast in the front line defending Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim rights in it despite the precious sacrifices they might offer in this path", the Movement underscored.

It also emphasized that the legitimate Palestinian resistance will remain the strategy that unites the Palestinian people against the Israeli occupation.
