IED damage U.S. Hummer in Baghdad

Baghdad, Nov 13, (VOI) - 

An improvised explosive device went off on Tuesday, damaging a U.S. Hummer in western Baghdad, a police source said. 

"The bomb, planted by unknown gunmen in al-Dawdi neighborhood in western Baghdad, exploded this afternoon near a U.S. military patrol, damaging a U.S. Hummer," the source, who wished to remain anonymous, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). No word was immediately available from the U.S. army on the incident.

U.S. troops raid mosque, arrest 3 people in Baghdad

Baghdad, Nov 13, (VOI) - 

A U.S. patrol on Tuesday raided a mosque in northern Baghdad, where they arrested three people, eyewitnesses said. "This was the third time this week that the al-Muntather mosque in al-Horiya region in northern Baghdad was raided, as Iraqi forces raided the mosque earlier this week," an eyewitness told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Iraqi forces did not accompany U.S. troops in the raid," he added.

Six unknown bodies found in Baghdad

Baghdad, Nov 13, (VOI)- 

Six unidentified bodies were found in different areas of the Iraqi capital Baghdad over the past 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Police patrols found six unidentified bodies in different areas of Baghdad, three of them were found in Baghdad's western side (al-Karkh) and the other three were in Rasafa," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"Three corpses were found in different neighborhoods of al-Karkh: one in each al-Doura and al-Aamel, al-Saidiyah," he explained.
"Three bodies were found in Sadr City and the neighborhoods of Ur and Qahera in Rasafa, eastern side of Baghdad," the source added.
"Most of the bodies found bore signs of gunshot wounds to different parts of the body, mainly to the head," he noted.

Policeman, medic killed by gunmen in Mosul

Mosul, Nov 13, (VOI) - 

A policeman and a medic were killed by unknown gunmen in two separate attacks in Mosul, while police patrols found the body of another policeman, who had been kidnapped a few hours earlier, in the western section of Mosul, a police source said.

"Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a policeman in al-Sada Bouaweiza region in northern Mosul, killing him instantly," the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) under condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the same source said that another armed group killed a medic in al-Nour neighborhood in northeastern Mosul.
"The two bodies were sent to the forensic medicine department," he also said, adding no more details.

Meanwhile, police patrols found the policeman, who was kidnapped a few hours earlier in al-Yurmouk in western Mosul.
"The body bore signs of gunshot wounds to the head and the chest," he noted.

"The policeman was working for Mosul al-Jadida police department and was kidnapped this morning near his house in al-Aabar neighborhood in western Mosul while heading for his work," he said.
Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa, is 405 north of Baghdad.

U.S. forces kill family in Mosul – police

Ninewa, Nov 13, (VOI) – 

U.S. forces killed a family of three, one of them an amir (leader) of a group in al-Qaeda Organization in Iraq and wanted by the U.S. army, in the city of Mosul, an official police source said.

"U.S. troops raided a house in the neighborhood of al-Wifaq, northeastern Mosul, killing a man, his wife and a one-year-old child," Brig. Abdul-Kareem al-Juburi, the director of the Ninewa security operations room, quoted a U.S. military official he did not name as saying. 

The bodies, he added, showed burning signs and were removed to the morgue in the city. VOI contacted the coalition forces' joint media center but got no information on the incident.

Soldier, policeman gunned down in Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Nov 13, (VOI) – 

An Iraqi serviceman and a policeman were gunned down in two separate attacks in Kirkuk, an official security source said on Tuesday. "Unknown gunmen opened fire on a soldier while he was en-route back home in central al-Huweija, killing him on the spot," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

The body was taken to the morgue of a nearby hospital in southwestern Kirkuk, the source indicated. "Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot a policeman from Kirkuk while he was driving his car to his workplace on Tuesday afternoon," according to the same source. A source from Kirkuk operations room told VOI earlier today that unidentified gunmen killed a police colonel and wounded his wife in an attack in southern Kirkuk on Tuesday morning.

Kirkuk, a mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Casualties from Baghdad blasts up to 10

Baghdad, Nov 13, (VOI) – 

Casualties from the bombing attacks that took place in the Iraqi capital earlier today have reached 10 wounded, an Iraqi police source said on Tuesday.

"Eight individuals, including three patrolmen, were wounded when a roadside explosive device went off near a police officer's convoy in Baghdad's central area of al-Karada," the source, who requested anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). "Some of them were seriously wounded," the source noted. Meanwhile, a car bomb went off on Tuesday morning near Huseiniya in Baghdad al-Jadida's Alf dar area, wounding two individuals. Police sources told VOI earlier today that six individuals, including three police personnel, were wounded in two separate blasts in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

IED leaves 5 casualties in Diala

Diala, Nov 13, (VOI) – 

Three Iraqi soldiers were killed and two others wounded when an improvised explosive device went off near their patrol north of the city of Baaquba on Tuesday, an official security source in Diala said.

 

"The IED targeted an Iraqi army patrol on the main road of the al-Hashimiyat village while on its way back to the district of al-Khalis, (15 km north of Baaquba), leaving three killed and two others injured," the source, who refused to have his name mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, he said. "Hashimiyat village, which links Diala to the capital Baghdad, is one of the key strongholds of al-Qaeda Organization in Iraq as well as Islamist militants of Afghan and Arab nationalities," said the source. After 2003 the village has witnessed several fake checkpoint ambushes that claimed the lives of a large number of civilians, he added. Baaquba, the capital of Diala, is 57 km north of Baghdad.

Senior police officer killed, wife wounded in attack in Kirkuk

Kirkuk, Nov 13, (VOI) – 

Unidentified gunmen killed a senior police officer and wounded his wife in an attack in southern Kirkuk on Tuesday morning, a police official source said.

"The gunmen opened fire at a police colonel while driving his private vehicle in al-Wasiti neighborhood, southern Kirkuk, killing him and wounding his wife," the source, who is from the Kirkuk security operations room, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on customary condition of anonymity. 

The source did not give more details. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad. Earlier on Tuesday in Kirkuk, six policemen, including an officer in the rank of major, were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near their patrol southwest of Kirkuk.

Six policemen, including an officer in the rank of major, were wounded when an improvised explosive device went off near their patrol southwest of Kirkuk on Tuesday morning, a police source said.

"The IED targeted an Iraqi police patrol in the district of al-Riad, (30 km) southwest of Kirkuk, wounding six including a major," the source, who is from the Kirkuk police operations room, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) on condition of anonymity out of security concerns. The source did not give further details. The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

18 gunmen killed, arrested in Talafar

Talafar, Nov 12, (VOI)- 

An Iraqi army force on Monday managed to kill eight gunmen and arrest ten others and confiscate a large amount of highly-explosive TNT near Talafar, while two civilians were killed in two separate incidents in Mosul, a media source from the 3rd brigade said. 

"A force from the 3rd brigade of the Iraqi army managed to kill eight gunmen and arrested ten others during fierce clashes that flared up in Abu Mary village near Talafar in western Mosul," Captain Mohammad Jiyad told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). 

"The forces also found four weapons depots containing 50 barrels of TNT and a large amount of weapons and ammunition," he added. Meanwhile, the Head of the Ninewa police department's operations room Brigadier Abdul Karim al-Juburi told the VOI "a civilian was killed on Monday afternoon when gunmen opened fire on him while leaving the mosque in Bab al-Saray region in central Mosul." 

"The victim shot one of the armed men with his gun, seriously wounding him," he added, noting that the gunman was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. "Another civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen in al-Qadissiyah region in northeastern Mosul," the brigadier said. 

"The dead man was working as an electric engineer," he also said. The source did not provide further details. Talafar is 70 km west of Mosul, the capital of Ninewa province, which lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
