Shaikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi Speaks in US Congress About Islam and Israeli Violations of Palestinian Rights Shaikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi: Islam is a religion of peace Saturday November 10, 2007 13:43 by PNN - IMEMC News manarjibrin at gmail dot com In a speech delivered to the US Congress on Friday, the head of the Palestinian Islamic Supreme Council of the Jurisprudence, Shaikh Tayseer Al-Tamimi, called on the US Administration to support the basic rights of the Palestinian people, and to end the Israeli occupation. The Sheikh, currently on a tour of the United States, also admonished the Israeli government for its role in barring Palestinians from entering Jerusalem to worship at their holy sites, arguing that the Palestinian people have the right to live in dignity, and that the benefits of a peaceful and just solution to the Jerusalem issue would be felt the world over. Of religion, the Shaikh described Islam a religion of peace that rejects war, violence and terrorism, and advocates dialogue, peace, cooperation and the free exchange of knowledge between cultures and religions. As part of his tour, the Sheikh is scheduled to meet with a selection of governmental figures and religious leaders across the United States. Translated by Manar Jibrin-IMEMC News
