Resistance Organizations Hold Two Conferences in Gaza and Damascus About Inalienable Palestinian Rights, Coinciding with the Annapolis Conference

Islamic Jihad leader announces second alternative summit in Gaza

Date: 31 / 10 / 2007 Time: 18:07

Bethlehem – Ma'an –

Prominent Islamic Jihad leader Muhammad Al-Hindi revealed on Wednesday that the Palestinian factions intend to hold two alternative conferences to oppose the US-sponsored autumn summit in Annapolis; one in Damascus and one in the Gaza Strip.

"In terms of Palestinian rights, the Annapolis conference will fail to achieve anything," said Al-Hindi.

Al-Hindi urged President Abbas to reconsider his participation in the summit.

The Annapolis conference has nothing to do with Palestine, said Al-Hindi, and will not benefit the Palestinian people.

He added that the conference is merely intended to serve US and Israeli goals.

PFLP leader: Damascus conference is solely to oppose US summit, not Fatah

Date: 31 / 10 / 2007 Time: 17:47

Gaza – Ma'an –

Member of the PFLP Jamil Mizhir said on Wednesday that the alternative Damascus conference is to address the achievement of inalienable Palestinian rights and principles.

He added that the PFLP opposes use of the conference to achieve ends other than opposing the US-sponsored autumn summit and any dangerous political consequences which may result from it.

Mizhir told press that all arrangements for the conference have been made in order to achieve positive results and avoid maintaining the divisions in the Palestinian political arena.

The PFLP, said Mizhir, decided to attend the conference to prevent the US-sponsored conference going ahead and he called on the PLO, Arab states and the PA to boycott the conference.

Syria was chosen as the destination for the conference, said Mizhir, because "Syria remains one of the few forces which oppose the US-Israeli project in the region."

Mizhir denied rumours that the conference aims to replace the PLO, asserting that the PLO remains the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

Mizhir said that the conference will not be used to generate anti-Fateh feelings and that Hamas will be requested to resume comprehensive intra-Palestinian dialogue.
