Bush lauds Israel as a “working democracy”!!!

Friday June 29, 2007 10:22 by John Smith - IMEMC

US President George Bush has lauded Israel as a model of democracy that other Middle East states should aspire to.

Speaking to a press conference on Thursday, Bush cited Israel as an example of democracy in the region, noting that the American administration views the state as planning model for their eventual vision of a peaceful Iraq.

Referring to sectarian conflict between Sunni and Shiite factions in Iraq, Bush noted that the perpetrators of such attacks “understand that sensational images are the best way to overwhelm the quite progress on the ground. Our success in Iraq must not be measured by the enemy’s ability to get a car bombing in the evening news.”

Continuing, Bush posited Israel as a model of success, suggesting that despite sustained conflict in the 40 year of its brutal and bloody occupation of Palestine, the country remains a “democracy”.

“Terrorists have taken innocent human life for years in suicide attacks. The difference is that Israel is a functioning democracy and it's not prevented from carrying out its responsibilities. And that's a good indicator of success that we're looking for in Iraq,” the US President stated.

This week alone, the “democratic” state of Israel has killed at least 16 Palestinians, including 2 children, injured approximately a further 61 and kidnapped another 20 civilians.

In the course of the past year, the Israel administration has refused to deal with the democratically-elected Hamas government and has, until very recently, sealed all border crossings into the Gaza Strip, thus preventing the flow of much-needed food and humanitarian supplies into the coastal region.
