AAI Co-hosts Former Palestinian and Israeli Negotiators in Capitol Hill Briefing, "Palestinian Political Crisis: Opportunity or Abyss?" AAI and Americans for Peace Now to Convene Discussion on Next Steps With Former Palestinian and Israeli Negotiators and Opinion Shapers WASHINGTON – June 23, 2007 –The Arab American Institute and Americans for Peace Now will host a briefing on the current Palestinian political crisis and U.S. options moving forward on Tues., June 26 on Capitol Hill. The discussion will feature Ghaith al-Omari, Daniel Levy and Lamia Matta, all former Palestinian or Israeli government officials and negotiators. WHO: Arab American Institute and Americans for Peace Now. Ghaith al-Omari, former foreign policy adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, member of Palestinian negotiating team during the Camp David summit and the Taba talks, and lead Palestinian drafter of the Geneva Initiative. Daniel Levy, member of the Israeli delegation to the Taba negotiations in 2001, member of the negotiating team for the “Oslo B” Agreement in 1995 under Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and the lead Israeli drafter of the Geneva Initiative. Lamia Matta, former legal adviser at the Negotiations Support Unit in Ramallah and one of the main legal advisers working on coordination with Israel and the international community on the withdrawal of Israeli troops and settlers from the Gaza Strip and parts of the Northern West Bank WHAT: Briefing on the Palestinian political crisis and next steps for all parties.
