Israeli Occupation Forces Injure Five Palestinians in Bil'in, Kidnapped Two in Um Salamoneh, and Invade Part of Jabalia
Five injured at Bil'in demonstration Friday June 22, 2007 18:10 by John Smith & Ghassan Bannoura - IMEMC As is the case each week, the people of Bil’in, located near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, joined by international and Israeli peace activists, conducted their weekly protest against the construction of the illegal wall that will cut the village from its rightfully-owned land. The Israeli occupation army blocked the road leading to the gate of the wall and as soon as the protestors arrived at the barricade, they were fired upon with rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas and sound bombs, leading to the injury of five people, among them two internationals. Also during the protest, two members of the Popular Committee Against Constriction of the Wall and Settlements were kidnapped by Israeli forces. While one was later released, the other was moved to a nearby detention camp. Israeli occupation soldiers kidnap two at Umm Salamoneh Friday June 22, 2007 17:25 by John Smith & Ghassan Bannoura - IMEMC Around 50 residents of the village of Umm Salamoneh, located to the south of Bethlehem in the West Bank, joined by international and Israeli peace activists, marched on Friday against confiscation of land by the Israeli occupation government for the purposes of the construction of the illegal wall. This week, the aim of the demonstration was to plant a number of olive trees on the land planned for confiscation. As is the case each week, protestors were pushed, kicked and assaulted by the Israeli occupation forces, who prevented them from planting any trees on the land. Sami Awad, the director of the Holy Land Trust organization and one of the protestors at Um Salamoneh today, stated: “As soon as we arrived to the land, soldiers attacked us, assaulted us and denied us access to the land where we planned to plant the trees. The Israeli occupation soldiers were very violent.” A short scuffle took place between Israeli occupation forces and demonstrators, leading to the arrest of two Israeli activists. Medical sources in Bethlehem reported no injuries at the demonstration. Israeli occupation forces invade Jabalia town near Gaza Friday June 22, 2007 11:40 by Nisreen Qumsieh - IMEMC News nisreen at imemc dot org Israeli occupation forces launched an invasion in Jabalia town, in the north of Gaza Strip, in the early hours of Friday morning. Eyewitnesses reported that a huge number of Israeli occupation military vehicles, backed by massive armored bulldozers, invaded the area while firing heavily. The Israeli occupation army established control over a petrol station in the area and turned it to a military base. Eyewitnesses added that bulldozers established mounds of earth near the petrol station and are currently sweeping the area. Local sources reported that in a separate operation on Thursday night, Israeli occupation forces committed two savage crimes; one in Khan Younis, in the south of Gaza Strip and the other in Jenin, where 7 Palestinian were killed and tens of Palestinians were injured, in addition to the abductions of a number of civilians.
