CAIR to Release Report Today on U.S. Muslim Civil Rights: Annual study will show jump in complaints about citizenship delays

On Thursday, June 14, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will hold a news conference in the nation's capital to release its 12th annual report, titled "Presumption of Guilt," on the status of Muslim civil rights in the United States.

The Washington-based Islamic civil rights and advocacy group's report - the only annual study of its kind - will show a significant increase in complaints related to immigration issues such as citizenship delays.

Nine states and the District of Columbia accounted for almost 81 percent of all civil rights complaints to CAIR in 2006. The states include: California, Illinois, Florida, Texas, New York, Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey, and Ohio.

CAIR, America's largest Islamic civil liberties group, began documenting anti-Muslim incidents following the 1995 attack on the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Its mission is to promote justice, enhance the understanding of Islam and empower American Muslims.
