Ronald Lauder Elected in the US as President of the World Jewish Congress Right Wing Republican Billionaire Elected as President of the World Jewish Congress Tuesday June 12, 2007 11:43 by Dina Yasmeen - IMEMC Editorial Group Ronald Lauder, owner of the Estee Lauder Cosmetics Company and current president of the Jewish National Fund, was elected as president of the World Jewish Congress on Sunday. He counts himself as a Republican and identifies with the Israeli Right. One of the most important and prestigious positions in the world of Jewish organizations, Lauder now sits at the head of a Jewish umbrella organization which houses representatives from Jewish communities in 80 countries, including Israel. The World Jewish Congress claims to represent Jews in the world and has a notably pro Israel agenda. In effect, the WJC identifies itself essentially as a zionist organization and counts prominent and wealthy zionists from around the world as members. Lauder replaces Edgar Bronfman, another zionist billionaire, as president who held court in the organization for 30 years. Lauder has said that he wants to clean up the World Jewish Congress, which has recently been plagued by irregularity in finances and internal corruption.
