MachsomWatch States: 180,000 Palestinians Classified as Security Prevented

Machsom Watch States said Monday that at least 180,000 Palestinians are classified as "security prevented", over one third of them without the least pretext.

In its latest report, it said that security prevention, by Israeli authorities, is a calculated, planned policy move of the Occupation, having nothing whatsoever to do with security. Its purpose is to exacerbate basic living conditions and maintain the Palestinian people's standard of living which is neither dying nor living, with no hope, no education and no proper economic infrastructure.

"For the past two years, Machsomwatch has been trying to help West Bank residents defined "security prevented" or "GSS prevented" to lift this prevention. By various estimates, about 180,000 residents of the West Bank are "security prevented" or "GSS prevented", it said.

It revealed that the fact that one third of our appeals were met without further procedures indicates that all those people should not have been on the 'prevented' list to begin with, even by the mysterious criteria of the GSS. Their prevention is totally arbitrary. On the basis of the cases we handled, it stands to reason that of the 180,000 'prevented' persons, at least 60,000 have been placed on the GSS lists arbitrarily.
