Illegal Israeli Settlers Desecrate a Muslim Cemetery Northern West Bank

WEST BANK, Palestine, June 11, 2007 (IPC + Agencies) - -

An Israeli newspaper reported yesterday that illegal Israeli settlers desecrated a Muslim cemetery northern West Bank. The "Yediot Ahronot" Hebrew said that about 1300 illegal Jewish settlers entered the village of Kifl Al-Harris Friday morning, to pray at the Tomb of Yousha'a (Joshua) Ben-Noon mentioned in the Torah.

Settlers spent several hours in the village and carried out acts of sabotage, and smashed windows of houses as well as they desecrated the local cemetery, they also broke many gravestones and wrote a number of slogans such as "Death to Arabs" and others.

A member of the village council said that "the settlers entered the village at three o'clock Friday morning, and left the village at seven."

He added: "Imagine what would happen if a Jewish cemetery was desecrated in France? Jews and the entire world would be angry and organize rallies against this anti-Semitic act."

The Israel's Radio reported that a team of representatives of the Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers arrived in the village yesterday morning and mended the damage after coordination with the local Palestinian authorities.

According to the radio, the representatives of the Israeli army met later on this morning (yesterday) with the Mayor of the village and apologized to him.
