Jenin - Ma'an -

Israeli occupation undercover forces (death squads) on Sunday night assassinated a leader of the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, in the northern West Bank town of Qabatya. In another raid, the Israeli occupaiton forces kidnapped an activist from the same group in Jenin, also in the north of the occupied West Bank.

"The Israeli (death squad) unit was disguised in a Mercedes bus, at the entrance of the village of Ash Shuhada, and suddenly they opened fire heavily towards a Hyundai in which three Palestinian citizens were travelling," an eyewitness told Ma'an.

Mahmoud Najib Nazzal, 26, a leader of the Al-Quds Brigades in Qabatiya, was killed in the gunfire.

"Then they prevented medical staff and ambulances from entering the area," the eyewitness continued, saying that the Israeli occupation forces detained Nazzal's body for an hour.

Israeli sources also reported that the Israeli occupation army kidnapped another Al-Quds activist, called Hilal Suwaiti, who was travelling in Nazzal's car.

Palestinian sources said that the car's other occupants had been able to escape.

Local citizens in the area said, "An Israeli undercover force and three military vehicles besieged a home in the fields in the Al-Shuhada triangle, and demanded the residents [the Naji Dheib family] evacuate their home as the army was searching for those who had fled from the car."

It appears that Suwaiti was then captured and kidnapped.

The local villagers then told Ma'an that the Israeli occupation forces kidnapped five Palestinians in the area, following the assassination of Nazzal.

Residents of the Ash Shuhada area said that the Israeli occupation forces kidnapped Othman Hussein Ali Wishahi; Amjad Ali Hassan Wishahi; Ma'moun Naji Hanaisha; Naji Hanaisha, aged 10; and Ahmed Muhammad Wishahi. They are all from the farming area of the Al-Shuhada triangle, located south of Jenin city in the north of the occupied West Bank.

Later on Monday, thousands of residents of Jenin refugee camp escorted the body of Mahmoud Najib Nazzal to his final resting place.

During the proceedings, Al-Quds Brigades urged all Palestinians to fight the Israeli occupation.
