PFLP spokesperson decries Arab-Israeli meetings in light of ongoing Israeli aggression

Date: 23 / 07 / 2007 Time: 15:07

Gaza – Ma'an –

A spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) criticised the Arab-Israeli meetings that have been held at several levels, despite the continued Israeli "aggression and violations in the occupied territories, including the closure of the Rafah crossing for the second successive month."

In a statement issued by the PFLP spokesperson, he said that the closure of the crossing in the southern Gaza Strip and the suffering of the stranded Palestinians reveals Israel's disrespect for the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.

He added that the Palestinian situation and conditions under the Israeli occupation are deteriorating.

"There is no need for more guardians and more deception of the Palestinian people. The deception of the people cannot be an alternative to carrying out the responsibility and implementation of international law and the protection of the Palestinian people," he said.

The statement also said that retaining national unity is the only way to protect the people.

The spokesman urged the Palestinian leaders to do everything possible to return things to the situation before the 14th of June when Hamas took over the Gaza Strip and to overcome the "catastrophic situation in the territories."
