Olmert's statements about withdrawal are deceptive, says Barghouthi Olmert is deceiving us, says Barghouthi Date: 22 / 07 / 2007 Time: 11:08 Ramallah – Ma'an – Palestinian Legislative Council member, Mustafa Barghouthi said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert's, public declarations regarding Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank are designed to "pull the wool over our eyes". Barghouthi, who is also the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, said that Olmert proposes partial withdrawal in order to avoid the evacuation of Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley, which comprise 24% of the West Bank. Barghouthi alleged that Olmert intends to continue to neglect the idea of a Palestinian state and transform it into "segregated areas in order to consolidate apartheid in Palestine even worse than that of South Africa." Barghouthi added "Olmert's statements imply that he coordinates with international parties to replace the idea of a sovereign Palestinian state with a weak autonomy without regional contiguity."
