Al-Qaddoumi rejects the disarming of the entire Palestinian armed resistance, Hamas welcomes his statements

Date: 20 / 07 / 2007 Time: 11:54

Bethlehem - Ma'an -

The Hamas movement has welcomed the statements of Farouq Al-Qaddoumi, the exiled secretary-general of Fateh's central committee, on Al-Jazeera satellite channel, in which he rejected the disarming of the Palestinian armed resistance. Al-Qaddoumi also called for internal Palestinian dialogue, held with Arab mediation.

In a statement, the Hamas movement said, "We have received the statement of Al-Qaddoumi with satisfaction, in spite of our political differences with the man."

The Hamas movement also reaffirmed its belief that the issue of armed resistance to the Israeli occupation is one of principles. "We are not going to say more about his statements, as the issue is a great one," the statement read. "It is more than receiving a pardon from the Israelis regarding this fighter or that; it is a matter of principles."

The movement also affirmed that Hamas is ready to "prove its good intentions" and accept Al-Qaddoumi's call for intra-Palestinian dialogue in order to end the current crisis.
