Israeli occupation army succeeds in 2 out of 6 assassination attempts against Palestinian resistance fighters

Date: 02 / 07 / 2007 Time: 13:35

Gaza – Ma'an –

Israeli military sources claimed on Monday that they destabilised the military wings of Fateh and Islamic Jihad when they assassinated six activists from the two groups in air strikes on Sunday.

Four other attempted assassinations conducted by the Israeli occupation military failed.

A report distributed by Fateh's military wing, the Al-Aqsa Brigades, and quoted from Israeli sources, states that the Israeli army are targeting the Al-Aqsa and Islamic Jihad-affiliated Al-Quds Brigades' operatives. It adds that the two groups have been the most active combatants in attacks on, or conflicts with, Israel recently.

The report named the assassinated leaders as follows:

Muhammad Al-Ra'i

Israeli occupation intelligence held Al-Ra'i responsible for the detonation of an explosive device in an Israeli military bulldozer, on the 12th of May 2004, in which three soldiers were injured. He was also accused of launching a rocket-propelled grenade at an Israeli military tank, which arrived to evacuate the troops.

The tank was loaded with tonnes of explosives and the explosion killed an Israeli occupation officer and four troops, whose bodies were pulverized in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Ziad Ghannam

According to Israeli sources, Ghannam was the mastermind behind the infiltration into an Israeli military post at the former Morage settlement, in the southern Gaza Strip, on the 23rd of September 2003. Three Israeli soldiers were killed in the operation.

Raed Ghannam

Raed Ghannam is considered the main manufacturer of the homemade projectiles used by the Islamic Jihad movement.

According to Israeli sources, the three leaders who were assassinated in the operation on Saturday; Ar Rai, Ziad Ghannam and Raed Ghannam, were planning to undertake a military operation near the border fence of the Gaza Strip.

Salah Quffa

Quffa was allegedly involved in an operation near the Erez Crossing, in the northern Gaza Strip, on the 6th of March 2004. In the operation, Palestinian fighters painted two jeeps the colour of Israeli military vehicles and planted a booby trap. The cars were then detonated near Israeli soldiers, two of whom died instantly.

The Israeli sources claimed that Salah Quffa and his son Iyad were targeted while they were manufacturing homemade projectiles and explosive devices, in the central Gaza Strip, on Saturday.

As for the Palestinian leaders who are currently being pursued by the Israelis, the report claimed that they have escaped assassination due to cunning and caution.

The report mentioned a few names that are allegedly on the Israeli assassination list:

Khalid Mansour

Mansour, aged 33, is the leader of Al Quds Brigades in the Gaza Strip. He supervises the manufacturing of explosives and all bombing operations personally.

Abu Ahmad

Abu Ahmad, aged 35, is the spokesperson of the Al Quds Brigades. Israeli intelligence claims that he is the coordinator between the Al Quds Brigades and Al Aqsa Brigades. The Israeli sources believe that Abu Ahmad is a relative of the Al Aqsa Brigades leader, Abu Al-Montasir.

Abu Al-Montasir

Israel claims Abu Al-Montasir is one of the most dangerous wanted men from the Al Aqsa Brigades, he is in his twenties and accused of directly planning several bombing operations.

In addition to his strong relations with Abu Ahmad, he is believed to be supported by important Al Quds Brigades leaders such as Nader Jaber and Abo Qusay.

Abo Qusay

Israeli sources stated that Abo Qusay, aged 34, is a very dangerous leader and that Israel takes his speeches very seriously.

Nader Jaber

Nader Jaber, aged 35, is described by the Israeli sources as 'deadly', he is believed to be responsible for several bombing attacks.

Abu Rashid Abu Toyour and Rami Hlayyil

Both are leaders of the Al Quds Brigades in the central Gaza Strip area. They are very closely related to Salah Quffa and the Israeli sources alleged that the two men were behind an operation in the Israeli town of Kisufim, along with Fatah man, Salah Quffa.

Khaled Abu-Shawish

Is a senior leader of the Al Aqsa Brigades, he is one of the most 'wanted' men in the West Bank even though he is paralyzed after receiving several bullet wounds in armed clashes with the Israeli forces some years ago.
