Credibility of the Peace Process lies with implementation of old treaties, according to PLO chief negotiator Erekat Date: 18 / 07 / 2007 Time: 14:27 Jericho – Ma'an – Dr. Saeb Erekat, the Palestine Liberation Organisation's chief negotiator on Wednesday called on the European Union (EU) to explore every possible avenue in order to set goals to be achieved during the international conference which US President Bush recommended last Tuesday. Erekat suggested putting mechanisms in place for implementation and timetables, as well as monitors, for the execution of the Arab peace initiative and Bush's vision of a two-state solution, the roadmap for peace (2002), and other signed agreements. The PLO chief negotiator stated this request in a meeting with the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Javier Solana, and the European envoy for the peace process, Marc Otte. Dr. Erekat emphasised that the credibility of the peace process lies in the implementation of already signed and suggested proposals and treaties, rather than in proposing new initiatives. He also urged the EU to offer support for the Palestinian people in all respects.
