Stranded Palestinians clash with Egyptian policemen on the Rafah crossing terminal [ 17/07/2007 - 05:10 PM ] ARISH, (PIC)-- Palestinians stranded at the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing terminal said that three Palestinians were wounded and hospitalized when Egyptian policemen attacked them with batons. One of the Palestinians said that the quarrel started when one of the trapped travelers apparently suffered a nervous breakdown because of the long period of their stay in Arish airport (more than 40 days) and tried to get out of the airport, prompting others to carry their bags and act likewise. However, he said the Egyptian policemen encircling the airport lounge assaulted the Palestinians with batons leading to the injury of three of them. There are 98 Palestinians trapped in the airport waiting for the Rafah crossing with the Gaza Strip to open. An Egyptian security official in northern Sinai said that the Palestinians were in a state of fury and smashed windows and broke doors and furniture in the lounge.
