Israel is attacking the Palestinian population, says PLC member Mustafa Barghouthi

Date: 14 / 07 / 2007 Time: 17:04

Ramallah – Ma'an –

Palestinian Legislative Council member Dr. Mustafa Al-Barghouthi has on Saturday condemned arbitrary Israeli procedures and the siege of Tulkarem, in the north of the West Bank, that has now been ongoing for 14 consecutive days.

In a statement received by Ma'an, Al Barghouthi said that the Israeli actions disrupt the Palestinians' ability to transport their produce, and that the harassment at the checkpoints should be interpreted as nothing less than "attacking the population."

Al-Barghouthi further condemned the repeated Israeli invasions in the Gaza Strip, claiming that "what Israel is doing is an operation to re-occupy the Gaza Strip step by step, in order to confiscate more than a third of the territory, which Israel will then turn into closed military locations".

The PLC member warned that "these Israeli actions are meant to turn the Gaza Strip into a jail".
