19 Iraqis, 2 US Soldiers Killed in an Initial July 14, 2007 Report

Editor's Note:

Browsing Iraqi online newspapers, in Arabic, yields a lot more deaths and injuries than what the Iraqi government and US forces spokespersons announce to the media daily. As a result, no one exactly knows how many Iraqis are killed everyday. But the number is in the hundreds (19 in this initial report today), as the following quick survey of some Iraqi newspapers has yielded.

The Iraq News Agency (INA) reported the following news about the Iraq war on Saturday, July 14, 2006.

- Two US soldiers were killed today in Baghdad in attacks. This increased the official number of US soldiers who were killed in Iraq to 3,613.

- Two Iraqis were killed, 15 were injured in an explosion in Al-Rasheed gas station, south of Baghdad.

- Colonel Muhammed Abdullah Al-Muhammadi, a former Iraqi intelligence officer, was killed by gunmen inside his home in Al-Saqlawiya, near Falloujah. This comes as an apparent counter-insurgency operation, in which former Iraqi army and intelligence officers are systematically targeted.

- Hussain Eidan Omran, director in the Iraqi Oils company was assassinated.

- Eight members of one Iraqi family were killed in Jabalah, Babil province.

- One person was killed, four were injured in a car bomb explosion in the Amel area, south of Baghdad.
