Mufti General of Palestine condemns Swedish newspaper for offensive cartoons Date: 30 / 08 / 2007 Time: 16:03 Jerusalem – Ma'an – The Palestinian Mufti General, Shaikh Muhammad Hussain, has called for the editor of a Swedish newspaper to apologise for publishing an offensive cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammad. The Mufti said in a statement on Thursday that the Swedish newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda, has published offensive cartoons about the Prophet Mohammad claiming that it was part of the freedom of expression. The Mufti described it as immoral and uncivilized conduct, which gives the "alleged" freedom of expression of the West (a bad name). He added that all heavenly religions prohibit offense against places of worship or religious symbols. Consequently, he called on the newspaper and its chief editor, Olav Johansson, to apologise. The Mufti of Palestine also appealed to all Arab and Islamic countries to fight such dangerous phenomenon against Arabs and Muslims.
