Thomas Friedman Received $250,000 from the Iraqi President Talabani

Iraq News Agency (INA), August 29, 2007

Iraq News Agency (INA) learned today that (the US-backed Iraqi president) Jalal Talabani has given $250,000 to the New York Times journalist, Thomas Friedman, for writing an article about him

The source who told INA this news confirmed that Friedman has received the money through Qubad Talabani, who accompanied Friedman to Sulaimaniyah, in the Iraqi autonomous Kurdish region

The source added that Friedman apologized to Talabani for not being able to meet with him in Baghdad because he did not coordinate previously with the US administration and for entering Iraq through Sulaimaniyah, without prior knowledge of the Iraqi government

For these reasons, Talabani traveled to Sulaimaniyah today, in order to meet with Friedman tomorrow (August 30, 2007), Thursday

Previously, Friedman criticized journalists who conducted interviews with heads of state and praised them, and those who received money from the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain for conducting interviews with him
