Haniya Welcomes the Statements of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy for his Willingness to Hold Talks With Hamas Haniya welcomes the statements of the French President Tuesday August 28, 2007 01:42 by Saed Bannoura - MEMC & Agencies saed at imemc dot org The Prime Minister of the dissolved government in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, from the Hamas party, welcomed on Monday the statements of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who stated that he is willing to hold talks with Hamas, the Ma'an news agency reported. In a statement issued by his office, Haniya said that his government is willing to hold direct talks with France and the European Countries and stated that his government is committed to its agenda which was agreed upon by the Mecca Unity deal. Haniya added that he believes in the importance of maintaining strong and solid relations with other countries in order to achieve peace and security, and to end the ongoing conflict by ending the Israeli occupation of Palestine. He expressed hopes that Sarkozy and France will play a positive role in solving the conflict in the region, and stated that he hopes that France will continue its efforts to lift the siege imposed on the Palestinian people. “We are very interested in maintaining strong relations with France”, Haniya stated, “We want to strengthen the relations between the two peoples in order to achieve security, stability and development in the region”. It is worth mentioning that on Thursday June 14, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, dissolved the unity government headed by Ismail Haniya and formed an emergency government, after Hamas took over all Palestinian security centers in the Gaza Strip and maintained military control over them. Hamas said that it is committed to the Unity Government deal, rejected the decrees of Abbas and stated that it took control over the remaining strongholds of Fateh movement, especially Preventive Security centers, in order to end the clashes in the Gaza Strip.
