Kucinich to renew call for national health care plan

at LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum Monday

August 27, 2007

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich is one of four Democratic Presidential candidates who will participate in cycling legend Lance Armstrong's LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum here tomorrow, and he will use the event to underscore the urgency of creating a national, not-for-profit health care system to help cancer patients and all other Americans with their health and medical needs.

Kucinich is the only Democratic candidate with legislation in the U.S. Congress to provide universal health care coverage to all Americans through a national, not-for-profit system with no premiums, deductibles, or co-payments. It has been endorsed by national groups representing physicians and nurses, by hundreds of labor union locals, and by several local and state governmental bodies across the country.

"Cancer is an insidious and devastating disease," Kucinich said, "and the cost of treating it is beyond the reach of millions of Americans. As long as the for-profit insurance companies and pharmaceutical firms remain in control of how health care is delivered and rationed in this country, millions of people will be denied the care they need, and millions of others will face financial bankruptcy in an effort to save the lives of their loved ones."

The entire two-hour forum will be broadcast live beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT) on MSNBC TV.
