Palestinian resistance fighter loses hand in violent clashes with Israeli occupation forces in Nablus

Date: 26 / 08 / 2007 Time: 10:22

Nablus – Ma'an –

Violent confrontations between Palestinian resistance fighters and invading Israeli occupation forces in Nablus, in the northern West Bank, on Sunday morning led to the severing of a hand of an Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades leader.

Ma'an learned that 28-year-old Samir Mabrouk, leader of the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), lost his hand whilst attempting to throw a heavy bombing device at Israeli troops.

Sources from the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades told Ma'an that Mabrouk's hand was completely dismembered and he was injured in many other parts of his body.

Mabrouk was evacuated to a secret location to receive treatment and sources revealed that his condition is stable.

Palestinian security sources said that armed clashes erupted between resistance fighters and Israeli occupation forces when soldiers attempted to storm Ein Beit el Ma refugee camp and several other neighbourhoods of Nablus city.

The sources added that several explosions were heard during the incursion.

Also in the Nablus region, the Israeli forces closed the Beit Iba checkpoint, to the west of the city. The Israeli military alleged that the barrier was closed following suspicions that a car was carrying explosives.

Eyewitnesses informed Ma'an that Israeli occupation soldiers at the checkpoint prohibited all Palestinian citizens from passing. They added that the Israeli occupation soldiers brought a sapper to investigate the vehicle, before reopening the road for citizens.
