Ramadan Starts on September 13, Eid ul-Fitr October 13, According to ISNA ISNA, August 25, 2007
American
Muslims lead the world in relying on scientifically determined sightable
moon to fix Ramadan and Eid dates well in advance when most of the
Muslim world is immersed in medieval practices, which are incompatible
both with the spirit of Islam and requirements of the time. Just so you
know this forum started this practice, when no one else did it to our
knowledge, about six years ago on the suggestion of forum member Junaid
Rubbani and we have kept it ever since. ISNA's Fiqh Council
adopted it only last year. Why? Because it was a case of where Muslims
were simply by-passing their so-called religious scholars and either
they had to catch up or forfeit their pretense of leading anyone.
We also did a program last year on this on ARY bringing two scholars in
for discussion - one who supported it (from ISNA) and one who opposed it
(from ICNA). ISNA is the largest Muslim organization in North
America. Its annual convention that will take place at the end of August
will attract some 30,000 Muslims from across North America. Its other
distinction is that this organization is currently led by a woman, which
is an absolute first for an organization this large and important. The
reformation in Islam, it is fair to surmise, may start from Muslims in
North America - inshalla!. Shaheryar Azhar, moderator, The Forum

BY THE FIQH COUNCIL OF NORTH AMERICA (REVISED)
08-20-07 15:48 The
Fiqh Council of North America in its meeting in Herndon,
Virginia on July 31-August 1, 2007 noted with satisfaction the recent
Fatwa of its counterpart in Europe "the European Council for Fatwa

(4 minutes before sunset). This does not meet the new criteria adopted
by Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) and European Council of Fatwa
and Research (ECFR). On Wednesday, September 12, 2007, sunset at Makkah
is 6:27 pm local time, while moonset is at 6:55 pm local time.
Therefore, first day of Ramadan is Thursday,
September 13, insha'Allah. The astronomical New Moon is on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 5:00 Universal Time (8:00 am Makkah time). Sunset at Makkah on October 11 is 6:00 pm local time, while moonset at Makkah is at 5:59 pm local time (1 minute before sunset). This does not meet the new criteria adopted by FCNA and ECFR.
