Editorial Note: The following news reports are summaries from original sources. They may also include corrections of Arabic names.

Do the Iraqi people know, that 70% of Americans want the USA to get out of Iraq?

Do the Iraqi people know, that 70% of Americans want the USA to get out of Iraq?

Do they know, this is not what the Americans want?

Do they know that this is Bush's war?

That we were lied to?

A small group of businessmen decided to deceive a nation, eager for revenge?

They lied to us, and our leaders.

I am just one person, but I need to know.

Linda D Sohi

Editor:

From what I read in the Iraqi and other Arabic media, the answer is "YES" to all of your questions. They expect more activism among Americans to pressure their government to end its wars in Iraq and around the world.

The following excerpts of a letter from CAABU Director, Chris Doyle, was published in the Jewish Chronicle in 5 October 2007 edition.

Complaint: article incites collective punishment

Letter published in the Jewish Chronicle

"We would like to express our outrage at Geoffrey Alderman's article (Turn off Gaza's water and fuel, Sept 28). It is a disgrace, essentially a call for collective punishment by depriving an entire civilian population of water.

Water is essential to life, needed by every one of the 1.5 million men, women and children in Gaza. Gaza's water resources have been massively depleted and polluted to the point of crisis, not least by actions by the Israeli military, damning water streams that should flow into the strip and drilling wells on the east of Gaza which deplete the western-flowing water aquifer from which Gazans are entitled to benefit in part. The point is that there is a clear dependency on water coming via Israel.

The firing of Kassams at innocent Israeli civilians (no Israelis died as a result) does not justify by any measure of civilized values a call effectively to destroy Gaza. Nothing does. Such incitement should not find space in any respectable newspaper."

Chris Doyle
Director
Council for Arab-British Understanding
